My Personal Experience with ChatGPT
I’ve experimented with ChatGPT in areas I know well — or at least think I know enough about.
One of the coolest projects I built for a client involved creating a tool that takes a YouTube URL as input, extracts the transcript, calls the ChatGPT API, and transforms it into a blog post format. We added several layers of customization to reflect the company’s unique voice. The challenge was repurposing YouTube videos to expedite the content creation process.
By providing content writers with a strong starting point to work with and edit, we saved them around 2,000 hours a year and tens of thousands of dollars.

In situations like this, ChatGPT can be a real time-saver.
Another time, I needed to create a proof of concept involving code in a programming language I wasn’t familiar with. Normally, it would have taken me four hours of diving into documentation. With ChatGPT, I got it done in under an hour. It helped me generate the necessary code snippets and guided me through the process, even though I didn’t fully understand the language.
With clear instructions, ChatGPT can help you accomplish tasks more efficiently.
Understanding ChatGPT’s Limitations
However, it’s important to always make sure the responses make sense. Don’t execute blindly. Take the time to understand how it works and how to properly instruct it so it understands you. Learning the nuances is key to successfully using it for your business.
If you’re not familiar with the subject matter, you might not know how to guide ChatGPT effectively. You could end up with suggestions that don’t fit your needs or, worse, lead you down the wrong path.
For example, if I’m unfamiliar with data analysis techniques, I might not know how to ask ChatGPT to help me identify specific trends in my sales figures. Without that knowledge, I might think the tool isn’t helpful when, in fact, I didn’t use it to its full potential.
This concept is especially relevant in a business context. Imagine asking ChatGPT for marketing strategies without understanding basic marketing principles.
Without knowing the right questions to ask or what details to look for, you may miss important information, leading to unreliable conclusions.

The goal here is to encourage ChatGPT literacy: understanding how to use it effectively and knowing its limitations. It can be incredibly useful for tasks you’re familiar with since you’re better equipped to assess the quality and accuracy of its responses. But when venturing into unfamiliar areas, it’s important to be cautious and recognize that without subject expertise, it’s harder to judge the reliability of ChatGPT’s answers.
Always make sure the responses make sense.
